The 12 recommendations for the management of these patients have been published in Investigación y Educación en Enfermería.

Elena Martos (physiotherapist) and Silvia García (Clinical Nurse of the Locomotor System Integrated Care Area), from the Sant Joan Despí Hospital, have participated in a multidisciplinary consensus on the role of nursing in the care of patients with rheumatoid arthritis and diffuse interstitial lung disease (DILD); with the support of Openreuma (a non-profit scientific association that brings together health professionals with an interest in the field of rheumatology)

Consensus methods are used in research to develop clinical practice guidelines, especially when evidence is insufficient or contradictory. In this case, 13 health professionals participated: 7 rheumatology nurses, 2 rheumatologists, 1 pulmonologist, 1 psychologist, 1 physiotherapist and 1 occupational therapist; and one patient with EPID.

As a result, 12 recommendations were developed for the management of these patients by the rheumatology nurse in clinical practice, which have been published in  Research and Education in Nursing, a publication of the Faculty of Nursing of the University of Antioquia (Colombia, South America). This journal disseminates advances in nursing research and education that contribute to the development of the discipline.
