Awarded at the sixth edition of the MAPBM awards

At the 6th edition of the MAPBM awards

As part of the annual meeting of the hospitals participating in the project Maturity Assessment Model in Patient Blood Management (MAPBM), held on March 30 in Madrid, the XNUMXth MAPBM Awards were presented, organized by the same MAPBM Research Group and CSL Vifor. The winner in the Hospital without Cardiac Surgery category with the best results in the MAPBM index was the University Hospital of Sant Joan Despí Moisès Broggi, while Hospital de Viladecans and Hospital Ribera Povisa, from Vigo, have been finalists. Prizes have also been awarded for these other categories: Hospital with Cardiac Surgery with better results in the MAPBM index and Hospital with the largest annual increase in the MAPBM index.

Carles Jericó, coordinator of the PBM Group of the Moisès Broggi Hospital Complex (doctor of the Internal Medicine Service) emphasizes: "transfusion rates and indices are the best-known indicators of PBM, although it is also very relevant to have more information about the treatment of preoperative anemia, and especially about the correction of hemoglobin in presurgery major or the restrictive transfusion which adjusts the transfusion volume. And to finish, it is relevant to correlate the appropriate transfusion use with clinical results with the reduction of hospital stay or post-surgical complications".

Sant Joan Despí Hospital (Moisès Broggi University Hospital Complex) bet on the Patient Blood Management program since its inauguration, in 2010. While the MAPBM was designed in 2014 with the goal of helping hospitals implement their Patient Blood Management (PBM) programs.
