The Vascular and Endovascular Angiology and Surgery Service is responsible for the diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of diseases of the circulatory system with arterial, venous and lymphatic pathology.
It is a joint service of the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau and the Hospital Dos de Maig

The service offers specialized assistance to patients with vascular pathology who need diagnosis and treatment
- External consultations. High-resolution visits with Doppler ultrasound in venous pathology.
- Vascular laboratory. Hemodynamic examinations. Non-invasive study of arterial and venous diseases with ultrasound
Arterial, venous and supraaortic trunk Doppler. Doppler ultrasound of limbs (ITB). - Major ambulatory varicose vein surgery. Conventional surgery, Chiva technique, minimally invasive endovascular techniques. Radiofrequency ablation and VENASEAL venous closure system.
- Sclerotherapy of varicose veins with foam.

Chronic venous disease groups disorders of the venous system that affect the lower extremities. It manifests itself through symptoms such as the feeling of heavy legs, pain, itching or cramps and signs ranging from the appearance of spider veins, varicose veins, edema or skin disorders to the appearance of ulcers in the most serious cases.
It is a chronic disease that affects a large part of the population: 25% of women and between 10 and 15% of men.
It has a great socio-economic impact. It involves significant healthcare expenditure and has an impact on the consumption of resources in the healthcare system. Varicose veins, due to their high incidence and prevalence, cause an overload of care and constitute one of the diseases that records the largest number of surgeries in the world.
In addition, they lead to a deterioration in the patient's quality of life and a loss of productivity.
It is important to establish an early diagnosis in order to offer the best individualized treatment to the patient.
Minimally invasive techniques for the treatment of varicose veins offer excellent results, with less postoperative pain,
as well as a quick recovery of the patient.- Thermal endovenous procedures, such as radiofrequency ablation of the internal saphenous vein, appear to be the treatment of choice in the treatment of varicose veins due to saphenous vein reflux. They have few complications, leave few scars and show a low recurrence rate.
- The venous closure system with cyano-acrylate: Venaseal, is a puncture technique with local anesthesia, without surgical wounds, with immediate incorporation into normal life, and without the need to use elastic stockings postoperatively. Its good results are comparable to thermo-ablative techniques.
- Sclerotherapy with echo-guided foam is a good, minimally invasive therapeutic alternative.
- Open surgery, using the Chiva technique or phlebectomy with a correct previous assessment by Doppler ultrasound, is also done on an outpatient basis and has a quick recovery.
