About the Observatory

The Digestology Service was born with the vocation to offer the best possible service to the citizens of its reference area. For this reason, it has paid particular attention to the choice of highly qualified doctors, with long accredited experience and with the concern to improve year after year. In this direction, the service is designed in highly specialized units in order to offer excellent assistance by professionals with a deep knowledge of the pathologies they face.

On the other hand, the continuous training of the team, their involvement in teaching and research, as well as the internal/external audits that evaluate their quality of care, ensure adequate care for fellow citizens and the detection of points for improvement in all the areas it is responsible for.

Units and benefits

Digestive endoscopy unit

All scans are done with controlled sedation by a Diploma in Nursing under the supervision of a doctor specializing in anesthesia and resuscitation. The examinations are carried out by doctors specialized in the digestive system through MIR with more than 10 years of experience in digestive endoscopy. Both conventional and highly complex scans are performed. It is part of the colorectal cancer detection program of the master plan of the Catalan Institute of Oncology (ICO).

    • Endoscopic capsule (PillCam and Patency)
    • Placement of enteral tubes
    • Placement of gastrointestinal digestive prostheses

    • Simple and complex endoscopic polypectomies
    • Argon beam cauterization
    • Digestive chromoendoscopy
    • Push enteroscopy
    • Placement of elastic bands
    • Placement of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomies or by pexia: gastric and jejunal
    • Therapeutic endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP): extraction of stones, placement of prostheses, dilation of strictures, treatment of bile leaks

Inflammatory diseases unit

Multidisciplinary intestinal pathology unit made up of a diploma in nursing, specialists in general surgery, radiodiagnosis, pharmacy and nutritionists, digestive, led by a specialist in the digestive system (Dr. Mercè Navarro). All this to treat patients with inflammatory bowel disease, a chronic and potentially serious pathology that mainly affects young people. It offers rapid, multidisciplinary management of Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis and its various complications.
Unit accredited by Bureau Veritas (GETTECU) with excellent rating.

Digestive functionalism unit

Ph-metries, esophageal, rectal manometry and stationary impedance. Biofeedback techniques.

Ambulatory area
  1. Monographic consultations: specific attention by doctors who are experts in rare pathologies that require a high level of knowledge. The service has the following monographic queries:
    • High-risk consultation: follow-up of patients at increased risk of colon cancer. If appropriate, the follow-up and genetic study of family members is carried out, as well as the consultation of complex endoscopic therapies.
    • Consultation of decompensated liver cirrhosis: follow-up of patients with decompensated liver cirrhosis to avoid hospital admissions. Patients are served when they need it: paracentesis, beta blockers, drug optimization...
    • Rapid diagnostic consultation: visits without a waiting list, for a quick study, to patients referred from the emergency department for suspected serious illness or neoplastic digestive disease.
    • Viral hepatitis consultation: Treatment is offered to patients with hepatitis C and B.
    • Consultation of functional digestive diseases.
    • Inflammatory bowel disease consultation.
  2. fibroscan to patients with liver disease to measure liver damage in a non-invasive and simple way.
  3. Consultations at the Specialized Care Centers (CAE) in Ronda la Torrassa, Cornellà de Llobregat and Sant Feliu de Llobregat. In these centers, visits derived from primary care are made to solve the most prevalent digestive pathologies or the patient is referred to the most convenient device depending on the basic pathology.

The Digestology Service has an inpatient unit with admitted patients under its care. The most common pathologies tend to be digestive bleeding, inflammatory bowel disease and decompensated cirrhosis. Their average income is 550 per year.
