Units and benefits

  • Clinical autopsies of adults and fetuses.
  • Biopsies and surgical pieces.
  • General cytology, cervicovaginal and PAAF (puncture-aspiration with a fine needle).

From these samples, the Service can carry out histochemical, immunohistochemical, ISH (in situ hybridization), IFD (direct immunofluorescence), PCR (polymerase chain reaction) and other molecular studies, to give prognostic and predictive factors to the treatment.

Diseases and procedures

  • Whenever a sample is received at the service, a report is made and sent to the corresponding clinical doctor who must explain to the patient, in their clinical context, the implications of the diagnosis.

Pathologists are always open to discussing diagnoses with doctors who need any clarification.
