About the Observatory

The Urology Service covers the area of health influence of l'Hospitalet Nord, Baix Llobregat and the Fontsanta centre, from the Hospital de Sant Joan Despí and the Hospital General de l'Hospitalet, and from the centers of specialized care in Torrassa, Cornellà de Llobregat and Sant Feliu de Llobregat.

It serves the reference population from the age of 15.
The service deals with most urological pathologies. It is divided into different units:

  • Uro-oncology unit: laparoscopic and open surgery for kidney, prostate, superficial bladder and infiltrating tumors. This unit is in the accreditation phase.
  • Stone unit, which carries out rigid and flexible ureterorenoscopy of ureteral stones, and the diagnosis of ureteral tumors. Treatment of tract tumors begins with ureteroscopy and, shortly, percutaneous surgery.
  • Benign prostatic hyperplasia unit with the introduction of vaporization with a green laser, in the ambulatory major surgery regime. Coming soon, prostate enucleation with Holmiun laser.
  • Superficial, infiltrating and urothelial bladder tumor unit. It is one of the first centers to introduce treatment with hyperthermic mitomycin at the time when bacillus Calmette-Guérin was not available.
  • Functional unit: flow measurements and endovesical botox injection.
