Recommendations

  • C-section scar massage should not cause pain. Yes you may notice a stretching sensation. The massage should be done in conditions that you can tolerate.
  • Abdominal sensitivity may be decreased and you may even notice pain or discomfort in the first weeks after the operation.
  • Avoid sun exposure of the scar for the first six months after the C-section.
  • Once the wound is closed, therapeutic silicone sheets can be placed. Adhesive dressings will help reduce the scar and protect it from solar radiation
  • Begin the massage when the wound is closed and the healthcare professional indicates.
  • You can do the massage 5-10 minutes a day, three times a week.
  • In case of pain, consult with a professional specialized in pelvic floor.

How to do the massage

  • First of all, you need to visualize the scar.
  • We recommend doing the palpation in the shower with soap and water.
  • Once you tolerate the palpation in the shower with soap and water, you can do the palpation dry, always in a comfortable place.
  • You can use natural oils, such as cranberry or rosehip oil.
  • To perform the massage, place one finger above and one finger below the scar. Move the fabrics up and down (illustration 1), laterally (illustration 2) with some pressure. Once you tolerate these movements, you can perform circles (illustration 3) on the scar to avoid adhesions. Later you can pinch the scar gently and even a rolled forceps (illustration 4).

EPISIOTOMY
